Ok... I thought I was doing alright without the laptop and I'm really not. I want all my stuff and I want it portable. I heard from James at the end of the week - he thinks the problem with our Dell may be with the logic board (you can tell he's a mac user) after all and not the DC-in, though I'm sure that was a problem, too, along with several others. If it's the motherboard we might as well plan to unload everything and sell it for parts (tears well quickly).
I briefly looked at the Apple website and MacBooks start at $1300 (ouch!). I don't debate the value, but when you can only afford a Kia you don't buy a Honda...
Check out this totally awesome computer though!
Did I mention that this particular one starts at $2700??

just hold out mom, save up $$;
it will take longer, but you will be glad you invested in a Mac, especially a Macbook, which is their highest rated, most reliable, best product.
That is saying a lot because Macs are superior to start with
oh, and the macbook you listed is expensive, but WAY beyond what us normal people "need"
there are ways to get your hands on a cheaper Macbook.
Stay up to date in Mac news... when new versions come out, the old versions' prices are lowered. Usually the week/day before a new version comes out, the Apple Store will have incredible sales.
You could also opt for a refurbished Macbook, which are drastically cheaper than newer ones. They are used, but they work the same because the parts are replaced and the machine is cleaned up, like new. Stephen would know more about how to look into this, but this is the best way to get your hands on a Mac w/o breaking your budget.
Stephen and I are wanting to get a Macbook ourselves because he shouldn't be using his laptop for outside-work stuff, so maybe we can go through the shopping process together.

I am talking to Stephen right now, and he says refurbished are actually more reliable. Refurbished laptops go through a series of testing that new laptops do not.... you are ensured that they work before you ever start using them.
Keep in mind, that even though a Macbook is more expensive initially, you would probably end up spending more on a PC laptop in the long run because of all the upgrades, repairs, virus protection, etc.
Macbooks are a lot more reliable, a lot less frustrating, and completely worth the up-front cost.
the last weekend of the month, the Apple Store has an open-box sale, where they take all their returns and sell them for low, low prices.
This is just the last weekend of the month, though. :D
is it be possible to get both windows & mac platforms on a refurbished macbook?
Yep, actually it is. You can run both windows and OSX on any new intel mac (one that comes with 10.5 or higher) and all of the refurbs at this point will include 10.5. Let me know if there's any way I can help! I went to Best Buy yesterday and bought one of the old (previous) generation macbooks (the black one) for $1199 and they threw in $200 of stuff with it (speaker set, a bluetooth mouse, a cooling pad, and a jump drive) and it's actually faster than the $1299 new macbooks and has a bigger hard drive (250 gigs). You might look and see if you can find something similar in KC, or if not I might be able to scrounge one for you here.

which windows os does it have?
It doesn't come with one, you'd have to use a copy that you had so which ever version you install is what it will use.
ahhhh! got it! :-)
